Principal's Message
Aloha e nā ʻohana o Kīpapa,
My name is Dr. Jhameel Duarte and I am honored that I have recently been appointed as the new Principal at Kīpapa Elementary School. I would like to thank Principal Corinne Yogi and her commitment to Kīpapa as a teacher, Vice Principal, and finally as a well-respected Principal. We wish her all the best as she enjoys her much deserved retirement!
I am currently in my 21st year in public education. I began as a part-time teacher teaching Hawaiian Studies in Pālolo valley at both Pālolo Elementary and at Jarrett Middle Schools. From there, I've had the privilege to work at Wāhiawa Middle school for over 10 years both as a classroom teacher and as a curriculum and instructional coach. As an administrator, I supported the students at Waialua Elementary and ʻAiea High School, and for the past two years, I’ve worked alongside our Complex Area Superintendent supporting all of our schools within the Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua complex. This work has strengthened my understanding of our schools and structures that support the need for all students to be successful.
I am excited to return back to the school level ensuring all students of Kīpapa are cared for and participate in high quality, rigorous and engaging learning experiences. It is equally important that at Kīpapa Elementary, we take care of the “whole child” by addressing any social-emotional learning needs that our students may have. We want all of our students to be academically successful and to enjoy coming to school everyday.
Throughout the coming weeks, more information regarding the opening of school days and preparation for students returning to school for the 2023-24 school year will be shared. I am looking forward to connecting with all of our families, students, and community members to ensure your child has the best transition and learning experience possible. Kīpapa has a rich history of educational excellence and we will continue to elevate and enhance the learning opportunities for all of our students. If you have any questions, call the school at (808) 305-4200. Thank you for your continuous support of Kīpapa Elementary School.
Me ke aloha pauʻole,
Dr. Jhameel Duarte
