On Saturday, March 9, 2019, Haley, Joshua, Raiden, and Reef competed in the SeaPerch Challenge held at the US Coast Guard Base. In preparation for the event, the students had to build a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) with parts such as PVC piping, motors, wires, floats, and zip ties. They even soldered their own remote control circuit board. Their journey was documented in an Engineering Notebook. The ROV needed to complete tasks in a swimming pool. The challenges included an underwater obstacle course, lighting up a beacon, retrieving parts from the bottom of the pool, and placing canisters in specific locations.
Our team took 2nd Place in the Advanced Category and received an invitation to Nationals in Washington, D.C. to be held June 1-2, 2019! Only 4 out of 55 teams received invitations so this was a great honor and surprise! Congratulations to Mrs. Tateyama and our Kipapa team! Way to go Cougars!
