Technology Curriculum


Keyboarding

One of our goals is for students to keyboard properly.  Keyboarding is a skill that will help our students be successful in school and in life.  Learning to keyboard addresses the following:

 

Common Core State Standard, Writing, Production and Distribution of Writing, 
K-12.W.R.6, with guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
General Learner Outcome #6

Ethical and Effective User of Technology.  

 

All students in kindergarten through fifth grade are learning to type using a website called Dance Mat Typing.  Dance Mat Typing is a free website.

Google Accounts

At Kipapa, we teach students to use Google Accounts.  Google Accounts allow students to do word processing, presentations, email (for fourth and fifth graders ONLY), and collaboration.  Google Accounts help our students to meet the following standards:

Ethical and Effective User of Technology.  

 

All students in first through fifth grade are learning to use Google Accounts this year.  When your child starts learning Google Accounts, you will receive a letter with more information as well as your child's account information.

 

When using Google Accounts, the best browser to use is Google Chrome.  Google Chrome is a free download.

Google Classroom

 This year the fourth and fifth graders will learn to use Google Classroom. Google Classroom can be used to receive, complete, and submit assignments. It can also be used to collaborate and communicate with students and teachers.

Drawing

Drawing on the computer helps to develop computer skills.  Students learn to click, drag, and manipulate the track pad.  Also drawing is one of the beginning stages of writing and allows students to express themselves.

Ethical and Effective User of Technology.  

 

Students in kindergarten through third grade will create a drawing in Technology class.  We use a FREE software called Tux Paint.  You can install Tux Paint at home by getting the Tux Paint Download.
